SIL 2007: 3rd Edition of the logistics night at the Rey Juan Carlos I Hotel

The night of excellence in Logistics brings together a thousand professionals of the sector. Centro Logístico Madrid Sur Ciudad Real, SIL Award to the Best National Logistic Project Paul-Friedrich Drumm, Managing Director of Linde Material Handling Ibérica, awarded Best National Logistics Entrepreneur

The Logistics Night celebrated its third edition the night of the 5th of June at the Hotel Juan Carlos I in Barcelona. More than a thousand professionals and directors attended the event, chaired by Manel Nadal, Secretary for Mobility in the department of Territorial Policy and Public Works of the Generalitat de Catalunya. This event was also the scene of the Third SIL Awards, which recognizes the best initiatives and professionals in Logistics and Material Handling in different business fields. On this edition, the Awards were sponsored by RENFE Mercancías.

The President of the International Logistics and Material Handling Exhibition, Enrique Lacalle, welcomed the audience to The Logistics Night, the traditional soirée that gathers together all the Logistics sector within the framework of SIL. Manuel Royes, Special Delegate of the State at  El Consorci de la Zona Franca de Barcelona, and Juan Fernández Álvarez, General Manager of Service Merchandise Logistics Manufacture and Maintenance, RENFE Mercancías, were together with the President of SIL, the hosts of the event.

The Organizing Committee of SIL 2007 awarded the SIL Award to the Best National Logistics Entrepreneur to Paul-Friedrich Drumm, Managing Director of Linde Material Handling Ibérica. The prize was given by Enrique Lacalle. Giuseppe Chiellino, Managing Director in Spain of CEVA LOGISTICS, received by hands of Juan Fernández Álvarez the SIL Award to the Best International Logistics Entrepreneur.

The Logistics Centre Madrid Sur Ciudad Real was awarded the Best National Logistics Project. Manuel Royes gave the prize to Juan Antonio Triviño, President of the platform. The awarded Logistics Centre includes the first international private airport in Spain, with a total investment of 1.100 million euros. Thanks to its adjacent location to the high-speed train line, Madrid - Seville and to the passenger station, the users of these facilities will be only 45 minutes away of Madrid and Cordoba. Furthermore, the airport is located next to the main highways for the purpose of having the fastest road-accesses. 

In the category of Best International Logistics Project, the prize was awarded to Dubai Logistics City (DLC), the first Multimodal and Logistics Platform in the world that centralizes services by air, land and sea. Dubai, an emergent Logistics power, aims to becoming the largest business centre in Middle East and the main connection of flights between Europe and Asia. Michael Proffitt, Managing Director of DLC, received the award from Manel Nadal.

The magazines Stock and El Vigía, two of the head and most prestigious journals in the field of Logistics and Industrial Material Handling, both received the SIL Award for Journalism. Awards were handed over by Enrique Lacalle to Ricardo Hernández, Managing Director of the magazine Stock, and by Manuel Royes to Lidia Loza, Managing Director of El Vigía.

The Special Award of the Jury went to AUTOMETRO, S.A., a logistics operator distinguished  by its project of freight-good road transport of SEAT vehicles from the factory in Martorell to the Port of  Barcelona. The prize was awarded by Manel Nadal to Joan Torres, President of FGC and Juan Ramón Rodríguez, Logistics Director of SEAT.

Once the prize-giving ceremony had concluded, Manel Nadal made the closing speech, and then the official dinner of The Logistics Night took place. The representative of la Generalitat highlighted the prestige of these awards and their valuable task in the diffusion of the Logistics know-how and the forefront projects within the sector.
