24th Cdim awards announced
The winners of the Cdim awards will bring the latest in design to Habitat Valencia Forward
The International Design Competition remained open until 12th June last, receiving entries for the two categories (Students and Professionals). The theme, materials and systems used in the designs were left completely open to the participants. Yesterday, the winners of the 24th edition of the cDIM Awards were announced at Feria Valencia. These awards are now recognised as one of the world’s best showcases for discovering new contributions to design today, both from professional designers and up-and-coming students.
Besides the usual criteria of innovation, creativity and functionality, the jury of the cDIM Design Awards, comprising Belén Feduchi, from BD Ediciones de Diseño, Vicente Gallega, designer and member of the Association of Designers of the Comunidad Valenciana, Konstantin Grcic, the well-known German designer, Chantal Haimade, journalist for the French magazine Intramuros, and Tomás Díaz Magro, director of Sistemas TDM, also judged the ecological awareness of the entries, both in terms of the manufacturing process as well as in the materials used and the function of the designed object. In total, Feria Valencia received 45 entries in the student category. Among these, the jury decided to award first prize in this category to Sven Bauhman Hernández from the Universidad Cardenal Herrera-CEU San Pablo in Valencia, for the “playful multi-functionality of his proposal, coupled with its potential to adapt to various different spaces”. In turn, the jury of the cDIM Awards decided to give four Mentions of Honour to: MyungHoon Lee from the School of Art and Design of Korea, Juan Villaro Mañes from UCH-CEU San Pablo (Valencia), Jorge Fos Mallol also from the UCH_CEU San Pablo (Valencia), and finally David Martí from EINA, Escola de Disseny i Art (Barcelona). The Jury also chose 8 other entries as finalists to be included in the cDIM Exhibition, and these are: Marta & Sergio Tébar from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura in Valencia; Rafael Félix Zaragoza, Raúl Miguel Edo Torres and José María Buyo from the UCH-CEU San Pablo in Valencia; Ferrán Lajara, Ismael Jubany and Claudia Roselló from EINA (Escola de Disseny i Art) de Barcelona; Celia Beltrán from the Universitat Jaume I in Castellón; and Josué Gamonal from Saint Martins School (London University of Arts). Taking a look at the professional category of the cDIM Awards, we had a total of 59 entries, with the first prize going to Ercolino, designed by Giulio Manzini for Campeggi. The Jury awarded this piece of furniture for “its capacity to integrate different spaces”. Besides, the five experts on the jury chose the following pieces for the cDIM Exhibition, which will be on show at Feria Valencia from 18th to 23rd September during Habitat Valencia Forward: Showtime by Jaime Hayón, Jenette by Fernando & Humberto Campana, Truffle & Auckland by Jean Marie Massaud, Dickies by Anthony Kleinepier, Miura by Konstantin Grcic, Booxx by Denis Santachiara, Regua by Álvaro Siza, Panier by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Polder by Hella Jongerius, Clay by Maarten Baas, Antibodi by Patricia Urquiola, Ensombra by Odos and 356 by José A.
