CeMAT 2008 - The World's Leading Trade Fair for Intralogistics continues to expand

CeMat 2008: With an annual turnover of 836 billion euros the logistics industry is the third largest in Europe. While the logistics sector as a whole has grown in single figures over recent years, intralogistics as a subdivision of that market has recorded double-digit growth. Indeed, with its high-tech systems and installations, intralogistics has now become the driving force behind the expansion of the logistics industry.

Intralogistics continues to expand

As the world's leading trade fair for intralogistics, CeMAT is the key barometer of the industry's performance worldwide. From 27 to 31 May the entire industry will be present once again at the Hannover Exhibition Grounds. With some 1,100 exhibitors (up from 948 in 2005) and a combined display area of 80,000 m² (2005: 72,400 m²), the show has grown by more than ten per cent since the last event in 2005, reflecting the pace of growth within the industry itself. Around 50 per cent of the exhibiting companies are coming from outside Germany to present their latest products to an international audience at CeMAT 2008.
Many first-time exhibitors from other countries
Four months before the start of the show, 150 first-time exhibitors have already booked 9,000 m² of stand space for this year's CeMAT. The list of names spans the globe: Vanderlande, Netherlands, Clark Forklifts, Germany, Crawford Group, Sweden, Gottwald Cranes, Germany, SauerDanfoss, Denmark, SIVAplan, Germany, Nissan Forklift Europe, Netherlands, FKI Logistex, Great Britain, Provost, France, Swisslog, Switzerland, Daifuku, Japan, Long Yan Tong Li Forklift Parts & Attachments, China, KITO Corporation, Japan, ProLogis, Germany, SEW-Eurodrive, Germany, and arvato systems technologies, Germany.

Networked warehouse solutions
No fully optimized logistics process chain is complete without tailored, warehouse-specific software solutions. Proper internal process control is crucial to problem-free warehousing and maximizing the overall efficiency of logistics processes.  And in the e-business age, it gives companies in the trade and manufacturing sectors a vital competitive advantage: the ability to monitor stock levels from any location and keep to promised delivery timeframes. The key is to have software solutions that have interfaces with other relevant business systems because seamless interoperability of warehousing, materials flow and information systems are essential to achieving maximum operational efficiency and productivity.
One of the hot topics in the intralogistics sector today is WLAN. The primary function of wireless communications in the logistics sector is to ensure key data can be accessed from mobile workstations in the warehouse. On-site data capture and WLAN systems give warehouse professionals on the move accurate information on stock levels and storage locations.  Data can be sent wirelessly to industrial trucks, thereby fully integrating them into warehouse process cycles. There is also an ecological dimension: intelligent networks between individual company locations or even partner companies conserve resources. This is in addition to the obvious benefits of integrated supply chain management: faster and more cost-effective order filling.
