Our foundation 1923

In 1923 Antonio Calligaris lays the foundations of the company, and begins producing his first chair: the “Marocca” model. During the 1930s Antonio passes the workshop on to his son Romeo. The future is bright and the 60s bring along the first automatic chair weaving machine. The company soon becomes an industrial reality with a strong tendency towards innovation. In the 70s Alessandro and Walter Calligaris are entrusted with the company’s leadership and begin exporting their products. The 80s are marked by significant collaborations with important customers and by the consequent intensification of industrialized methods. In the 90s, the brand’s increasing echo and the international market’s growing attention towards Italian products and design convince Calligaris to start distributing branded products all over the world, opening international branches.

Situated in a beautiful area, rich in local entrepreneurial culture, Calligaris combines the quality of Italian style, artisan tradition and the benefits of industrialisation, to bring its products to the internationalmarkets. This is the recipe that makes Calligaris a leader in the Italian furnishing industry. Calligaris is made up of five different companies: a holding company which supervises and coordinates the Group’s strategies; Calligaris d.o.o, where raw materials are bought and where the first production takes place; Calligaris USA, which deals with the North American market; Calligaris Japan, which deals with the Japanese market; and Calligaris S.p.A., the core of the Group. Our headquarters are in Manzano, in the North of Italy. At the head of this group is Alessandro Calligaris, third generation president.

Calligaris’ continuous expansion confirms the enthusiastic response of an evermore international and heterogeneous customer base, and proves that now is the time to intensify our investment campaign and consolidate our presence abroad. Calligaris sells in more than 90 countries. International markets, mainly Europe and the United States, make up for more than 50% of the company’s turnover, however, Calligaris is also expanding into other countries. Keeping close relations with agents and customers allows us to understand different cultures and satisfy different needs. To us, respecting the individuality of each country is of paramount importance, especially when promotingand marketing our products and brand.

Our turnover 150 million €

Calligaris’ 2006 sales figures closed with an overall turnover of over 150 million Euros: this reflects an increase from the previous year. This achievement is the direct result of an extremely attentive and effective penetration of national and international markets, attained through the constant strengthening of our brand. Calligaris is continuously working to interpret the aesthetic taste of consumers worldwide. The 7000 versions listed in our catalogue have been conceived to satisfy the needs and habits of today’s life, keeping in mind the importance of a personal touch and of practical solutions. Chromed or satinated steel for our frames, laminates, resistant and colourful fabrics, wood essence, transparent or coloured tempered glass, leather and plastic are the materials which Calligaris chose for its collection, these are the results of our continuous research. One of our priorities is to keep our products and finishings homogeneous in time, to facilitate furniture combinations for the whole house.

6.000 m2 Planned fairs per year

Every year Calligaris takes part in numerous furniture exhibitions worldwide and plans exhibitions for a total amount of 6000 m2. We are present at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, at the Salon du Meuble in Paris, , at the IMM in Cologne, at the Furniture Show in Birmingham, at the IHFC in High Point, at the Salone Internazionale della Sedia in Udine, at the FIMin Valencia, at the Meubelhurs in Brussels, at the Crocus and Mebel in Moscow, at the IFFT in Tokyo, and at various fairs that specialize in the contract business. On many occasions, we also collaborate with customers who need to organize their own stands. We simply place our products in ways that reproduce the settings of our catalogues or ads. By doing so, we guarantee a coordinated and homogeneous image of our company. We want our product to be seen and touched, with the confidence that in this manner they will be appreciated.

Calligaris offers you the support that makes the difference. Calligaris works together with retailers to pursue one common objective: maximizing sales to the final consumer.
